Whoops, forgot I had a blog...

This morning I woke up because I wanted to see this up close:

There are two of them on the hill behind my house. I don't know what they are, but up close I think they look like movie screens, only I don't think anyone has ever watched a movie on them. Someone should. I think they might be used for radio reception?

As a bonus to climbing the hill to see the two lone movie screens I got to see this:

Some would wonder why I would call it a bonus to see an electrical playground from above, but I was really looking beyond the electrical thing to the view of Cache Valley as the morning was emerging from the night.

This is pretty much how tired I felt when I made it to the top.

My little sister Pam went too. You might think she is crouching down so that she wasn't ruining the view for me, but really that rock behind her is holding her up. The hill was very steep.

The nice thing about hiking in the morning is the fact that you can experience the world without too many other people running around and saying stupid things. (My poor sister wasn't so lucky, she had to listen to my chatter.) Here she contemplates why she agreed to hike straight uphill first thing in the morning. She is also looking at what appears to be a gang of wild cats walking up the hill below us, but on further notice we think they were really skinny turkeys trying to keep the pounds off until after the Thanksgiving holidays.

At one point I began to doubt that those tall things on top of the mountain really existed at all. We couldn't see them during the hike because of the curvature of the earth and things of that nature. But finally after an hour and fourty-five minutes of listening and feeling my heart pound out of my chest I finally spied those things through the only two trees on the hill. I was quite happy to see them.

And then with a few more steps they came into focus and the sun finally came up and blinded me:

This is the view of the valley from the top. The Wellsville Mountains are in the distance of the second picture, for those who need a reference point. My house is the one just down that street covered with trees, in the small clearing is a tan van and my house is north of the van, can you see it?

This is the view of the other side of the hill. I sang "The Bear Went Over The Mountain" in honor of seeing the other side of the mountain.

This is what the whole adventure was about.

Glad you could join me on the hike. Anyone want to climb the matching hill on the north side of Green Canyon? There aren't any movie screens on that side, just trees and rocks. If you want to go, meet me on the Wednesday morning before Thanksgiving, let's say about 7:00 am at my car. See you there.

I can't join you the day before Thanksgiving, but I would like to, I'm going down to Las Vegas. Way to use the resources of the Earth around you! Hurray for global warming and nice weather on a Saturday in November!

Wow, I am so jealous! I want to go on adventures early in the morning! I want to explore where someone has been before a long time ago and placed a movie screen? I wonder what was shown on it? I wonder if the Turkeys watch old black and whites when they aren't hiking around staying skinny like you guys!
Great pictures and what a view!

Kim, the time frame you picked out for hiking to the twin movie screens really isn't going to work out. I think you should pick a more responsible time...i.e. not the day before Thanksgiving.

I've never heard anyone outside of my family mention or sing "Oh the bear went over the mountain." I got three shades of sentimental when I read that.

I'm almost inspired to go hiking tomorrow morning. But alas, instead I think I will sleep in, blog all day (it's been a long while), prepare my lesson plans for the week and go to bed. Oh, and eat something with a cream sauce on it. I'm sooo excited.

Cindy - we can go hiking some other time. We should do some hiking in Vegas up Christmas Tree Pass and in Southern Utah down into Death Hollow and in and around SLC.

Becky - Maybe we should do something fun when I come out to visit, like a hike somewhere? Mt. Diablo?

Linds - I can't help but schedule the wrong day, I am only going to be home for the Tuesday and Wednesday before Thanksgiving and then a few days before Christmas. We will be hiking in snow when I return.

Liz - I wonder if we both sing the bear song because we grew up in Cali? We sang it a lot in elementary school. I used to sing it with great gusto, now I only sing it when I see the other side of a mountain.

Wow! The memories! I remember hiking up there with Jack and Vince's dog. That's the last time Vince let me take her on a walk becuase he said I almost killed her. Glad you made it up and back injury free.

Separately, hope you're having fun in GA and I can't wait to see pics!

I think it's the last time Kim gets to take me, she almost killed me too.
